NORA: The Warehouse District Grows Up
North of downtown, in a reimagined warehouse zone that is transforming into a dining and lifestyle destination, NORA has moved past renderings and into service. Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar was one of the first restaurants to open in the emerging NORA District, bringing tacos, oysters, and tequila-forward cocktails to West Palm Beach. That opening matters less on its own than for what it signals: tenants are actually taking keys.
The forthcoming lineup reads like a Manhattan cross-section. The Nora Hotel is poised to anchor a major mixed-use district and is slated to welcome Pastis, the iconic New York brasserie, with an anticipated fall/winter opening. The August news is Niwa. APM Restaurant Group, just off the heels of earning Michelin Stars for its restaurants Emelina and Ogawa, has announced it will open Niwa at 523 Park Place in West Palm Beach this October, adjacent to Emelina. The concept is unusual: the first collaboration between two of APM's chefs, master sushi chef Masayuki Komatsu of Ogawa and chef Osmel Gonzalez of Emelina, whose restaurant became the first Cuban concept to earn a Michelin star.
The menu combines seafood sourced from Tokyo's renowned Toyosu Fish Market with regional ingredients and Latin-inspired preparations, with dishes such as mojo-marinated wagyu, guarapo-braised black cod, Florida blue crab hand rolls, pristine nigiri, and delicate usuzukuri.
Three chef-driven rooms on effectively the same block is not the shape West Palm Beach dining had five years ago. A new dance festival is set to debut in West Palm Beach this summer, with the inaugural Banyan Dance Festival taking place Aug. 3–8 throughout West Palm Beach, organized by Natural Movers Foundation and Grounded WPB, featuring performances, professional dance training, public classes, artist talkbacks and community experiences. Featured artists include Sean Aaron Carmon, a former dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater who will create an original work for the Banyan Dance Company, along with Babatunji and Loni Landon.
Founder Ericka Squire framed the ambition in plain terms: "Palm Beach County is Florida's Cultural Capital, and we wanted to create an opportunity for audiences to experience high-quality dance performances while also creating real pathways for dancers and choreographers to train, work, create, and be seen right here in Palm Beach County."
